Katherine Klawans Smith A.S.L.A. provides landscape architectural services to developers, public agencies, residential clients, architects and engineers. Ms. Smith has gained recognition on a large number of projects distinguished in both design and technical areas. Award-winning projects range from housing developments and destination resorts to shopping centers and residential design. Ms. Smith’s expertise includes landscape master planning, planting and irrigation design, mitigation design, paving design, and construction detailing.  She responsively adapts client’s goals and expectations to create practical and beautiful designs within time and budget constraints.
Ms. Smith is respected for integrating environmental appreciation with a high regard for the client’s needs and sensitivities. Being a native of the Monterey Peninsula gives her a unique awareness of our regional plants and water demands. Each project is approached with intelligence, design excellence along with a sense of vitality and humor. She is strongly committed to design distinction and creativity while remaining responsive and flexible. 
Katherine Klawans Smith holds a Bachelor’s Degree in landscape  architecture from the University of California at Berkeley where she received the American Society of Landscape Architects Award of Honor for design excellence. While in school she was the president of the ASLA student chapter and recipient of several awards and grants based on her academic achievements and distinction in design. The State of California licenses Ms. Smith. Ms. Smith worked for firms distinguished for their designs, most notably, Carmel Development Company and Landmark Land Company of California, both based in Carmel, the Peridian Group and Lufkin Landscape Architects. 
Ms. Smith has worked on projects at every phase from conceptual design through to preparation of construction documents. She is talented in both hand designing and on computer design & drafting. Most recently, Ms. Smith has worked on Clint Eastwood’s project - Cañada Woods and Tehàma Golf Course while employed at Carmel Development Company.   She has also worked on residential developments, parks and custom residences on the Monterey Peninsula, and in Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino, and Marin Counties. She is a past member of the Sonoma County Design Review Board.
